Illegal dumping out of hand, fumes resident

An illegal dump in Glenwood is attracting rats.

ILLEGAL dumping at the intersection of JB Marks (Cato) and King Dinizulu (Berea) Roads has become an area of concern for local resident, Neville Lloyd.

Lloyd said he had noticed the dumping and had contacted DSW on numerous occasions, emailed the mayor’s secretary and posted requests on the eThekwini Municipality’s Facebook page, but has had little luck in getting a response.

“The situation has completely got out of hand with huge rats being spotted on the illegal dumpsite. Why do we, as the ratepayers of our once pristine Glenwood suburb, have to contend with this general lack of interest and apathy from municipal officials when we are the few contributing towards exorbitant rates that the city imposes on its residents?” he asked.

In response to a query from Berea Mail, Sharen Kistnasamy from DSW said the area in question was cleaned by contractors and that they had been advised of the problem. She said the dumping had been cleared and the area would be maintained.
