Radio Boat Club sees surge in membership
Join the Durban Radio Boat Club and learn how to sail a radio controlled yacht at the Pond.
DURBAN Radio Boat Club’s holiday season has seen increased model activity at the Pond with more interest being shown by the public.
The club will host its annual general meeting on 19 January at 10am when Commodore Peter Heathcote is due to step down.
“We are indebted to Commodore Heathcote as it was due to his quiet but persistent efforts with the city officials that the Pond was saved from being filled in to become a ‘picnic’ area! For that the Durban public at large thank Commodore Heathcote,” said Terry Flynn from Durban Radio Boat Club.
He said the club had seen a steady increase of membership since the Open Day held in March 2013 and the small membership has almost doubled in numbers since then.
Before and after the AGM on 19 January, the scale models and model yachts both the Radio Controlled Laser and International One Metre will be on display at the club and on the pond.
