WARWICK Triangle will undergo a massive re-development and upgrade that is set to change the face of the city. eThekwini Council has given the nod to the multi-million Rand project, that will see the city invest around R112-million into the first phase of the development.
City Manager, Sibusiso Sithole said Warwick Triangle was an important economic hub where commuters converged using road, rail and taxi transport to and from the City. The development will ease traffic congestion and improve cleanliness in that section of the City.
The Early Morning Market traders will not be negatively affected by the development which will see the infrastructure at the current market refurbished. Part of the broader plan for the area is the construction of a retail centre, new taxi ranks and ablution facilities. he City The municipality has budgeted R112-million for the development of a non-motorised platform and taxi rank.
According to a report presented to Council, Berea Station Mall (Pty) Ltd together with the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), being the developer for the R500 million train station upgrade, retail and commercial development will ensure that the upgrade project is of acceptable quality and comply with world-class standards.
Deputy Mayor Nomvuzo Shabalala assured council that an extensive consultation process would take place with all stakeholders to ensure that the success of the development. “We will take all necessary steps to ensure that our stakeholders are part of the development,” she said.
