Amateurs set sights on Midmar Mile

Feeling unfit and unfirm after the holidays, a group of novice swimmers will take on the Midmar Mile this weekend.

A GROUP of 10 Glenwood residents will tackle their first Midmar Mile at the weekend.

The group, made up of swimmers from 13 to 44 years old, decided at the beginning of the year to take on the challenge of the Midmar Mile as their first challenging event for the year.

“We were keen to start the year off with a bang and our fun bunch will take part in the family race. We are amateur swimmers, so it’s just a bit of fun for us!” said Madelein Pestana do Vale.

The group has been training by doing laps in the local swimming pool while others have done some long distance training at the Durban beachfront.

“We all felt unfit from the holidays and this was a great incentive to get fit and become lean, mean swimming machines!” said Madelein.

All swimmers in the team are first timers at the Midmar Mile.
