Substation fire causes outages
A fire at Rossburgh Substation resulted in a large scale power outage on Sunday.
A fire at the Rossburgh substation in the early hours of Sunday, 9 February, caused extensive damage to the high voltage plant and results in power outages which affected the Bayhead and Clairwood areas as well as parts of Rossburgh.
The Fire Department arrived at the scene immediately and extinguished the fire at around 7am. Officials were on site to establish the extent of the damage and carry out reparation work to restore supply to the affected areas. The Municipality’s electricity technical experts are investigating the cause of the fire and are unable to quantify the costs of the repair at this stage.
