Cops take action against illegal parkers

Metro police will make a concerted effort to fine illegal parkers in Rick Turner Road.

METRO Police will take action against motorists who park illegally on Rick Turner Road to use the takeaway.

That’s the latest from Metro Police and city officials after a meeting with Ward 33 councillor, Nicole Graham on site last week. Graham met with Snr Supt Morgan Subramany from Metro Police as well as officials from eThekwini Transport Authority, Vishay Harriram and Eugene Naidoo who agreed that motorists caughted parking illegally would face stiff fines.

“When the food outlets were built it was thought that they would predominantly be used by students on foot. Accordingly, there is little parking space. The outlets are on a large thoroughfare that is used by thousands of vehicles daily. We have agreed that there will be increased enforcement during peak hours to prevent illegal parking and the massive traffic congestion it causes,” said Graham.

She said Metro Police had committed to doing their best to ensure the problem desists and that she would monitor this to ensure it is done. “I also urge people to have respect for the law and use the stipulated parking for this complex. While we were meeting, a number of people parked right in front of the Metro Police van on the red line and thought nothing of it. The community needs to assist us in dealing with this problem,” she said.
