Dog attacks cane rat

Glenmore resident is concerned that a rat problem is developing in the area.

EVIDENCE of a rat problem was brought home this week when Glenmore resident, Janet Nicholson’s dog attacked and killed a large cane rat that had managed to aqueeze through the fence into her garden in John Geekie Road.

“If you see one rat then there are twenty more you can’t see. I think there is an epidemic as just about everyone you speak to has a rat story – they chew through washing machine wires, chew through alarm wires, cats bring them into the house or they are in the roof. I have chatted to people at the supermarket who are buying Finale rat poison as well as friends and acquaintances. I’ve called the health department but no one has come to see me yet. I see rat traps at most shopping malls, which you never used to see,” she said.

She urged residents to make an effort to put rat poison down in places where rats might be nesting, and make sure that pets and children did not come into contact with any poison.
