Mayor calls for action against ‘disruptive’ IFP leader

eThekwini mayor James Nxumalo is calling on Speaker Logie Naidoo to take action against IFP caucus leader Mdu Nkosi.

MAYOR James Nxumalo has criticised the disruptive behaviour by IFP caucus leader, Councillor Mdu Nkosi during the sitting of full council on Wednesday, 19 March, at Rotary Stadium in KwaMashu.

The sitting was held in KwaMashu as part of the programme to take council to the people, following a successful meeting held at Umbumbulu last month.

In a media statement, municipal spokesman Thabo Mofokeng said Councillor Nkosi complained at the start of the meeting that IFP supporters wearing party t-shirts were being prevented from entering the marquee where the meeting was being held, citing the fact that ANC supporters had worn party regalia during the Umbumbulu sitting. However, it was explained that party whips had reached an agreement that supporters would no longer be allowed to wear party political attire during future council meetings, including the KwaMashu meeting.

Councillor Nkosi ignored orders to stand down from the Speaker, Logie Naidoo, and subsequently approached the Speaker’s table.

“The behaviour of Counicllor Nkosi is unacceptable and should be condemned. We do not need such behaviour as it could have agitated people and led to violence. The Speaker must take the necessary action against him,” said Mayor Nxumalo.
