Hole lot of trouble

The Roads Department left a hole untarred, creating a pothole on the busy Mathews Meyiwa (Stamfordhill) Road.

RESIDENTS of Greyville are fed up with eThekwini Roads Department after a hole was dug up and not properly fixed causing chaos on the busy road.

“There is a huge square in the middle of the road dug by the Roads Department and they just left it like that,” said Johanna Lambrechts who lives on the busy road. “For more than three weeks now, we have been hearing cars, busses and trucks constantly hitting this hole and its has got deeper and will cause a lot of damage to the vehicles and may even result in accidents. Something must be done,” she added.

According to Jonathan Govender, an employee who works on Mathews Meyiwa (Stamfordhill) Road, there was a problem with the road in mid April. “”I’m not sure what caused it but the road gave way and the Roads Department came that week and tried to fix it but they did a half done job and just covered it with sand and stones.”

Govender said the road was busy and the hole made traffic congestion worse during the day. “The pothole will damage rims and set off motorists’ wheel alignment. We are afraid people avoiding it might unknowingly cause an accident.”

The eThekwini Roads Department could not comment on the hole at the time of going to press.
