Couple cross finish line together

Glenwood High School's Kevin Woodrow achieved his Green Number at this year's Comrades.

KEVIN and Manuela Woodrow have reason to celebrate. Kevin, a teacher at Glenwood High School, achieved his green number after completing his 10th Comrades Marathon this year. His wife, Manuela, who ran the Comrades with him, notched up her eighth Comrades as the couple crossed the finished line together.

“I was very happy to receive my green number from Comrades’ legend Bruce Fordyce,” he said.

According to Kevin, they were a little disappointed with their time of 11 hours 25 minutes, but under the circumstances, finishing was the first priority for both of them. “We have both had much quicker bronze medal runs in the past, but are proud of the fact that we finished the eighteen marathons we have entered,” he said.

The jury is still out regarding next year, but Manuela has two to go before she qualifies for her green number.

“I want to thank the boys and staff for all their support before the race. I ran with a green, red and gold chain that my wife made for me, so I did have a little bit of Glenwood with me!” he said.
