Food, blankets for the needy

Residents of Durban and surrounds were given food parcels by a relief organisation.

THE International Islamic Relief Organisation (IIROSA) and the Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, James Nxumalo, recently joined hands to uplift the lives of the less fortunate people in wards in Durban South, South Central, North and Western regions of the metro.

Altogether, 1 500 food parcels and blankets were distributed to deserving citizens, to keep them warm and nourished as the cold winter approaches.

Each food parcel comprised of basic and staple food aimed at sustaining a household of five members comfortably for at least one month.

“On behalf of eThekwini Municipality I will like to extend my gratitude to the International Islamic Relief Organisation of Saudi Arabia for the quality food parcels and blankets which I’m proud to hand over to the needy. I think in this partnership there is a lot that we can do, it is true that by working together we can do more,” said Nxumalo.

The International Islamic Relief Organisation of Saudi Arabia has a regional branch based in Durban that supports projects in the Southern African region. It is a member of the United Nations ECOSOC and cares for the upliftment of society’s most needy.

Among its services, IIROSA provides disaster relief, social, health care services and education when the need arises. Contact info@iirosa.co.za or 031 303 1655.
