Speed humps get green light
Three roads in ward 31 have been marked for the erection of speed bumps.

eTHEKWINI municipality has given the go-ahead for traffic calming measures in three roads in ward 31.
According to ward councillor Jethro Lefevre, speed humps will be erected in Hurst Grove, Kilburn Avenue and D'aintree Avenue (Sydenham).
“These roads were given the go-ahead after concerns were expressed by residents and supported by me. They met the necessary criteria under the current policy. The turn around time was quite good. I've been begging for a more flexible approach to speed calming especially on high order roads that run through residential areas such as Sparks Road and Musgrave Road. I think that the city should not base a need for speed calming solely on fatalities but also on the frequency of accidents on roads, especially on residential roads where children are at risk such as Sparks and Rippon Roads,” said Lefevre.
He said he hoped one day to put Musgrave Road on this list once a workshop on this policy was held with eThekwini Transport Authority.
“Frequency of accidents on these residential roads and the need for speed calming are some of the key points I will be raising at the workshop on behalf of ward 31 residents,” he said.
