Enjoy the Glenwood Community Festival

A BUSY weekend of participative family activities is planned for the eighth annual Glenwood Festival on the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September.

Opening on Thursday evening, 4 September, is a showcase of more than 100 works of art from the various local high schools which will be on display at the Corner Café in an exhibition curated by Sarie de Beer and facilitated by Stewart Littler. The work can be viewed over the weekend.

Saturday has lots of sports and fun family events, starting at 7am with the Life Entabeni Hospital 5km fun walk and run from Stella Club, followed by the Waltons “Back-to-School” treasure hunt in Bulwer Park for children, at 10am with more than 100 prizes to be claimed.

The annual Glenwood chess challenge is on at Glenwood Prep, featuring school teams from invited schools. The Camelot College Craft Market, also at Glenwood Prep, will once again have lots of interesting craft goods on sale.

Glenwood Prep School will host a pre-schools' fun morning, with children’s games such as jumping castles, clowns, horse rides and participative activities for the littlies.

Mid morning, from 11.30 am to noon, there will be junior soccer seven-a-side challenge featuring the Glenwood Community Church team being pitted against Glenwood High School select team.

Starting at noon, there will be a special performance by the Durban Girls’ High School drummies and Glenwood High School band, showing precision, musicality and skill.

A highlight of the sporting programme is the North Durban All-Star soccer team taking on the Glenwood All-Star soccer team, also at Glenwood Prep, starting at 12.30pm.

That evening, from 6.30pm until late at Glenwood Prep there will be an elegant school dinner dance with a fabulous mix of dance music to suit all tastes, plus some strict tempo numbers, by Dr Fester. To book contact Mrs Dreyer on 031 201 5165. Tickets are R200 and include a four course meal.

The Bulwer Food and Craft Lover’s Market has been included into the festival programme. It will be run again on Sunday morning in Bulwer Park from 10am until 2pm. A special festival feature of the market will be the inclusion of The Artists in Action: get inspired by artists working at their easels under the shade of the trees and watch works of art in progress.

Sunday is a Community Day of Prayer. An interdenominational service will be held at the Glenwood High School at 6.30pm. Entry is free and all are welcome. Monetary gifts or food parcels for the Jeanette Smit Seniors’ Home in Glenwood.
