Alliance shocked by Paris tragedy
Go place flowers of commemoration in the garden at Alliance Française, in memory of the 12 killed at Charlie Hebdo.
THE terrorist attack that struck the editorial office of Charlie Hebdo has saddened not only the French community, but also all the sense of democracy attached to freedom of expression, says the Alliance Francaise in Durban.
Carole Durand, Culture and Communications Coordinator, said the expression of solidarity from around the world is poignant evidence, and Alliance Française de Durban is thus paying tribute to the artists who were killed.
“They were the creators and moralists whose lessons were expressed by lucidity, courage and laughter. You are welcome to come and place your flowers of commemoration in the garden at Alliance Française, in memory of the 12 killed at Charlie Hebdo. In light of this event, we add our heartfelt condolences to the three dead police officers as well as four citizens killed under siege at a kosher supermarket in Paris, just days after the dramatic events at Charlie Hebdo,” she said.
In remembrance of Stephane Charbonnier, Jean Cabut, Georges Wolinski, Bernard Verlhac, Bernard Maris, Philippe Honore, Elsa Cayat, Mustapha Ourrad, Michel Renaud, Frederic Boisseau, Ahmed Merabet and Brigadier Franck Brinsolaro, and law enforcement officers Ahmed Merabet, Franck Brinsolaro and Clarissa Jean-Philippe, a wreath has been laid at the Alliance at 22 Sutton Crescent, Morningside.
“Alliance Française has always fought for freedom. It will always be at the forefront of the battle to defend the values of tolerance, humanism and the love of life,” she said.
