Credit arrangements can be made for municipal debt
Residents can now pay off their municipal debt through a credit arrangement with eThekwini Municipality.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has stated that residents with outstanding municipal accounts will now be able to arrange a repayment plan to settle their debt.
According to Head of Communiciations, Tozi Mthethwa, over the years the municipality has, through its credit control and debt collection policy, introduced a credit arrangement facility for customers.
This facility allows a customer to enter into a payment agreement with the municipality to settle their outstanding municipal debt, thereby ensuring that essential services are not cut off.
To ensure the effectiveness of the Municipality’s Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy and also to improve on its enforcement, customers should note that for all credit arrangements a credit agreement application form has to be submitted with supporting documents such as proof of income, business financial records and so on. A credit agreement, acknowledgement of debt or consent to judgement must be signed. A deed of suretyship is required, and customers will be required to sign a compulsory direct debit order with the municipality against the outstanding debt.
Customers are also advised that the application will go through a credit profile assessment to determine the amount of risk the municipality is exposed to by the applicant and to also determine the suitable terms that may be granted.
