BEREA SAPS made good arrests and recoveries over the weekend.
According to Lt Poobalan Naidoo, spokesperson for Berea SAPS, on 29 May at around 8.15pm, a woman parked her car in 9th Avenue, Morningside, locked the car and went into her guest house.
“She heard glass breaking and looked out at her vehicle and noticed a man running away with her red handbag. He ran into a vacant house. The police were called and they responded and searched the building and found the suspect with the complainant's property,” said Naidoo.
The man was arrested for theft out of motor vehicle.
In another incident on 31 May at 11.15am, police were patrolling along Sydenham Road and noticed a man carrying a small white wooden table and four small wooden chairs.
“The officers stopped and questioned the man and he could not give them a reasonable explanation as to where he got the items from. He was arrested for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen,” he said.
Lt Naidoo said the police suspect the furniture could be the property from a local pre-school.
