ETHEKWINI Municipality is addressing problems relating to Metro Police dogs, following allegations in media reports that there is a shortage of dog food and dog shampoo as well as outstanding vet bills.
It is alleged that Durban’s Metro Police officers are digging into their own pockets to pay for essential items for their dogs, as the unit battles to overcome the shortages in food and care products.
According to reports, a large proportion of the K9 force has also not been inoculated because of outstanding vet bills.
eThekwini Head of Communications, Tozi Mthethwa told Berea Mail that management was addressing the matters. “Metro Police dogs are an important part of the Metro Police family and all effort is being made to ensure their care is of an acceptable standard,” she said.
