Four arrested for loitering

Four women were arrested for loitering in Glenwood last week.

UMBILO Crime Prevention and Communications Units patrolled the streets of Umbilo, paying particular attention to Esther Roberts Road and Clark Road this week, as part of a continuous effort to curb the problem of prostitution in the area.

“Prostitution is illegal, but the community may not take the law into their hands by beating up the prostitutes. Legal action will be taken against anybody who takes the law into their hands,” said Lt Pumzile Makaula of Umbilo SAPS.

Four women aged between 19 and 27 were arrested in an operation along these two roads last week.
Umbilo SAPS is investigating a case of loitering for the purpose of prostitution.

Lt Makaula recently conducted one-on-one sessions with the alleged prostitutes on Esther Roberts Road and Clark Road where she informed the girls about the dangers of prostitution and educated them about what the law says with regards to prostitution, and that it is illegal.
