
Theft by false pretences
A 40-year-old man was recently arrested by Umbilo Crime Prevention officers for collecting donations under false pretenses at UKZN.
According to Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, it is alleged that the suspect introduced himself as an employee of “Afrotainment” and said he was collecting donations for the funeral of the late member of the Kwaito group “Big-Nuz”, Sibusiso Khomo, who was popularly known as “R- Mashesha”, who died on 7 August.
“It is alleged that the suspect collected the donations on two nights, and that UKZN security contacted “Afrotainment” who were not aware of this. UKZN security called Umbilo SAPS. Umbilo SAPS is investigating a case of theft by false pretenses,” she said.
Seven years for house breaker
A MAN was sentenced to seven years imprisonment for housebreaking.
The 22-year-old, Nhlakanipho Mnguni was arrested on 27 July by the Umbilo Social Crime Prevention Officers for house robbery in Ormiston Road, Umbilo.
Umbilo station commander Colonel Gerald Mkhize said Umbilo SAPS will not rest until it cleans out all criminals in Umbilo, especially housebreaking criminals.
