FAMILY Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal have a reason to celebrate their success during Women’s Month.
The units achieved good results during the investigation of various sexual related offences in KwaZulu-Natal, with detectives from the FCS Units having been working tirelessly to ensure that those that perpetrate crimes against women and children are brought to book.
From 1 to 31 August, detectives arrested a total of 250 suspects for sexual related offences including kidnapping, abduction, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, attempted murder, contravention of protection orders and rape cases in the province. During the same period, the members had 65 convictions by various courts in the province after they were found guilty of sexual related offences.
Nine life sentences and a total of 623 years of imprisonment were handed down by courts during the past month.
Management at the FCS Units welcomed the maximum sentences that were handed down in most cases and appreciated the fact that justice was delivered to the victims of these crimes.
