Six dead in Durban taxi rank shooting

Six people were killed in a shooting at the Brook Street taxi rank early on Wednesday morning.

SIX people were confirmed dead on Wednesday morning after alleged taxi violence broke out at Durban’s Brook Street taxi rank.

According to Chris Botha spokesman for Netcare911 the shootout at the taxi rank, behind the old Railway station left six people dead and three injured.

“Our paramedics and the provincial ambulance services arrived at the scene and were faced with carnage. After triaging the injured paramedics confirmed that six people had tragically lost their lives due to the extensive injuries that they sustained, three others sustained minor injuries,” Botha explained.

Paramedics stabilised the injured at the scene before transporting them to hospital. “Exact detail to the cause of the shooting and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment,” Botha added.
