Thief caught red handed
A Morningside woman was lucky to have her property recovered after a thief broke into her home on Thursday morning.
According to Captain TD Gumede, Berea police communications officer, the woman left her home with the doors locked and windows
closed. She received a call from her security company alerting her to the break in at her Lambert Road home. “The security guard had noticed the man try to break in and alerted police. He also caught the man red handed with the clothes from the house,” Gumede explained.
Be aware of vehicle theft
Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions after attempted theft and car theft reports over the past week.
In two separate incidents last Thursday, Captain Gumede explained one vehicle was taken from Marriot Road while in the second, a vehicle was tampered with in Avondale Road. “Between 10am and 10.15am the man allegedly locked his car and went into his home and upon his return he noticed a man inside his car. The man jumped out and fled on foot when he saw the owner,” Gumede said.
In the second incident, a man had locked his vehicle around 3.30pm and when he returned around 8pm the car was gone.
Gumede encouraged the community to be extra vigilant with vehicles and never leave items visible in the vehicles.
