Man sentenced for rape, kidnapping
A woman's ex-boyfriend has been sentenced to a total of 17 years imprisonment for rape and kidnapping.

A 31-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced in the Durban Region Court to eight years imprisonment for rape, six years for kidnapping and three years for assault.
On 9 August 2014, a 30-year-old woman went to visit her friends at Jadhu Place in Springfield. While she was with friends, her ex-boyfriend arrived at the house. Later at about 11pm, the woman decided to go home, but her ex-boyfriend instructed her to go back to the room.
Major Thulani Zwane from SAPS, said the victim decided to sleep in the separate room with her friends, and a few minutes later the man went into the room and forced her to go with him into a nearby bush.
“While on the way she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and dragged to the bush, where he raped her. The victim managed to flee after some time and look for help,” he said.
Charges of rape, kidnapping and assault GBH were opened at Mayville police station and the docket was transferred to Brighton Beach Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation. The accused was arrested a few days later.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the good work of the Brighton Beach FCS Unit.
“We hope that this victory will serve as a warning to the cowards who intend to exploit those that are vulnerable in society,” she said.
