Suspected stolen property
CRIME prevention officers were on patrol in Sydney Road near Dalton Hostel this week when they came across a man carrying a truck battery covered in a blanket.
When the police inquired about the battery, the man said he had bought it for R70 from another man. He then threw it on the ground and ran away.
The police took the battery to Battery Centre to test and found it was working perfectly.
Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS said many cases of this nature had been reported at the station, and warned truck drivers to be careful where they are parked off.
Theft out of motor vehicle
A MAN parked his company’s truck in South Coast Road only to return to find the window had been smashed and his bag, containing clothes and a cellphone, was missing.
The man noticed a police van driving past and stopped them, informing them of what had happened.
The police arrested a man immediately for theft out of motor vehicle. He dropped the bag and it was handed back to the owner.
Man linked to house breaking cases
A KENYAN man has pleaded guilty to 13 cases of housebreaking in Umbilo, between 2010 and 2013.
He was arrested in St George’s Street for drug possession on 27 October.
“When he was arrested, the police put his identity through the Max ID process, where he was linked to many other cases including 13 in Umbilo for housebreaking.
We urge people not to disturb a crime scene as fingerprints can help police link criminals to other cases,” said Lt Makaula.
The man appeared in court on 28 October and pleaded guilty on charges of housebreaking and drug possession. Police say a number of other cases allegedly liked to the man at other police stations are pending.
