Water levels continue to drop despite rain
The city urges consumers to save water and use it wisely
DESPITE recent rainfalls, eThekwini Municipality has warned that low water levels at Hazelmere Dam are still extremely concerning wit the dam level currently sitting at 25.8 per cent.
According to the municipality, if and when the levels at the dam reach 15 per cent, the water will be rendered unfit for use.
The city said rainfall over the past few days had been minimal and not expected to force a huge increase in water levels. Rationing and water restrictions have been placed on households supplied by Hazelmere Dam. Hazelmere levels were critically low last year September at 32 percent, and a 30 percent water restriction was placed upon the dam at the time. The city is appealing to consumers to reduce water consumption by 50 per cent with immediate effect to assist in the conservation of the water reserves.
