Hotel murder suspect still at large

Point police are looking for a man who murdered a 28-year-old man, who was found dead in a room at a Durban hotel.

THE police are still searching for a man who allegedly killed another man in a hotel in Durban.

On Thursday, 3 December, a 28-year-old man was found dead in a room at the hotel on South Beach.

According to Major Thulani Zwane, during the initial investigation it was believed a 43-year-old man had booked into the hotel where he was shot and killed.

“After thorough investigation, it was found that the man who was found dead was actually an acquaintance of the guest who booked into the resort,” he said.

Zwane said the victim, who was not announced by the guest to the resort’s reception on his arrival, has been identified as Jan Craemer, who was reported as missing at Brighton Beach Police Station.

“It is alleged that the guest booked into the hotel for two nights. On 30 November at about 3pm, he booked in and he went to his room alone. Later on the same day, he left the resort and returned to the resort later with his acquaintance. Around 7.30pm the guest was seen leaving the resort alone and was never seen going back to his room and his acquaintance was also not seen leaving the building,” said Zwane.

He said a 'Do Not Disturb' sign was found on the room door, but by 3 December a resort employee became suspicious that the room was still locked and the ‘do not disturb’ sign was still on the door. He opened the room only to find the body of the man inside.

Point police were called and a murder case was opened as the body had gunshot wounds.

“Point police, with the assistance from the resort, are working to trace the suspect,” said Zwane.
