Crowds flock to Durban beaches

Thousands of people visited Durban beaches on 16 December.

MORE than 178 319 people flocked to Durban’s various beaches on 16 December with 25 964 people visiting municipal swimming pools. According to eThekwini Municipality 15 rescues were carried out where swimmers found themselves in difficulty under water and 10 beach goers received first aid for blue bottle stings and minor cuts.

Approximately 8343 armbands were issued and 187 children were separated from their guardians. By Thursday morning, three children still remained under the Municipality’s care.

Approximately 4178 litter bags were collected. Two arrests were made for cases related to bag theft and a stabbing incident was reported.

No incident of drowning was recorded.
