Child Welfare hosts radiothon
Child Welfare hosted a radiothon on Saturday to raise funds for the organisation.
CHILD Welfare Durban and District in conjunction with Radio Hindvani held a Radiothon on Saturday, 12 December.
Radio Hindvani broadcast live from Stormhaven in Clarence Road, and the public was invited to make a pledge and mingle with their favourite radio show hosts.
There was a mini information desk at the premises in Clarence Road on the day and local magician and brand ambassador, Mo Magic, was there to surprise guests with some magic.
Income development volunteer, Themesha Khan, said the aim of the radiothon was to encourage people to come forward and make pledges and she said there was a great vibe on the day, and people arrived to meet their favourite radio presenters.
“We are asking for people to think about those less fortunate children who don't have much for Christmas, and pledge their support,” she said.
At the event was a great supporter of Child Welfare, Nishani Linders. Nishani is a South African, who met her Dutch husband 16 years ago, while he was on holiday in South Africa.
“He wanted to take the sun back to Holland with him, so he took me! I have lived in Holland for 10 years, but I have been involved on the committee at Child Welfare for 20 years, and continue to work with the organisation from my home in the Netherlands. I really wanted to still make a difference and help out, and have started Project SA, where people help through donating, and recently fixed the floors in a few of Child Welfare's children's homes. I work on projects with other NGOs as well highlighting the issues of KZN and bringing attention to third world problems,” she said.
“This was a fundraising initiative to cover the grocery bill for our four child and youth care centres, which is one of our highest expenditures every month. We thank the community for calling in and pledging and for coming to Child Welfare on the day,” said Irene Okoye from Child Welfare.
