Good arrests by Umbilo SAPS this week.

Drug possession

TWELVE arrests for the possession of drugs were made in and around Umbilo over the weekend by Umbilo SAPS. According to communications officer, Lt Pumzile Makaula, this number included two women and a 68-year-old man.

Theft arrest

A BUSINESS owner in Devonshire Road, Glenwood, found his business broken into on 11 January and furniture, including a leather sofa and six leather chairs was missing.

“The man went to Helen Joseph Road and saw a vehicle with the items loaded on the back. He stopped the driver and asked where he had gotten the items and where he was going with them. The driver said he was going to deliver them to Phillip Avenue,” said Lt Makaula.

The man told the driver that the goods were stolen from his premises and when he got to the destination, the driver showed the business owner who he was going to deliver the items to.

“Both men were arrested,” said Lt Makaula.

Theft of copper cables

ON 11 January at 4.15pm, a man went to inform a business that he had seen three LMV employees stripping electrical cables and putting cable into a metal box in Sydney Road. The vehicle wheel was clamped and all three suspects were arrested.

Drunken driver nabbed

UMBILO police were patrolling in Sydney Road at 8pm on 11 January, when they saw a white Toyota Quantum driving at very high speed.

The police chased after the vehicle and instructed the driver to get out of the car.

“He smelt of alcohol and could not even stand. He was taken to Addington Hospital for tests, and was arrested for drunken driving,” said Lt Makaula.
