Robbers arrested with quick police response

Umbilo police are appealing to the public to be aware when they are victims of a crime so that they can give police accurate descriptions of suspects which helps police in making arrests. Police arrested two robbery suspects on Sunday morning after being given detailed descriptions by the victims.

According to Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula a couple were walking along Prains Avenue on Sunday morning around 8.45am a when they were allegedly attacked by two men who threatened them with knives. “The men demanded the couple’s cellphones and ran off. Moments later an Umbilo police vehicle went past and the couple told police about the incident and and gave the suspects’ description.

The police, armed with a detailed description of the two suspects, chased and and found the suspects and arrested them.

“We appeal to complainants to try to get a description of criminals, their dress, height, look, facial markings to assist police as this helps to make arrests,” she added.

Car thieves apprehended

A Glenwood resident is lucky to have his car after three thieves who tried to steal it in the early hours of Tuesday morning were arrested by Umbilo police.

According to Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula, the man received a call from his neighbour at around 1am and alerted him after the neighbour saw the man’s vehicle roll down Hutchinson Road, with three suspects inside. “The complainant dialled 10111 to report the incident and Umbilo police members immediately arrived. The complainant got into the police vehicle as they chased the vehicle to Teignmouth road where the three suspects were arrested for theft of a motor vehicle,” explained Makaula.
