Burglar caught red-handed
A burglar ran out of luck last Thursday morning, 21 January when he was caught red-handed with various stolen items.
According to Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS, the domestic worker of the Kildare Road home arrived at work about 7.30am and saw a man standing outside the home. “She called her employer assuming the man was waiting for him but the complainant (home owner) said he didn't have any meeting arranged but went out to check. After looking around, he found the man hiding in some the bushes,” she explained.
Makaula added the suspect was found with takkies, cash, a tablet, camera and jewelry which all belonged to the complainant. The home owner then noticed that one of the doors to his home had been forced open. The suspect was arrested.
Robbers sentenced to four years
TWO suspects were sentenced to four years in prison for a crime they committed last Sunday morning.
According to Lieutenant Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS, two students from DUT ML Sultan campus were robbed of their cellphones while walking along Prains Avenue by the two suspects who were armed with knives. Umbilo police chased and arrested the suspects.
The suspects Mzamo Chiliza (22) from Umlazi and Xolani Mthabela (31) from Kwa Mashu appeared in court and were both found guilty of the robbery with aggravating circumstances.
