According to sources close to the scene, shots were heard and the area is flooded with police vehicles. “A vehicle has driven through a boundary wall into a property, still awaiting details but believe SAPS were chasing the vehicle,” is the comment that made its rounds on crime WhatsApp groups.
A community member who wished to remain anonymous told Berea Mail the incident could be related to an attempted hijacking on Che Guevara (Moore) Road this morning.
Lt Pumzile Makaula, communications officer at Umbilo SAPS, confirmed the shooting. “One suspect died and two suspects were arrested. Investigations are continuing,” she explained.
The vehicle, a white VW Golf, was taken to Umbilo SAPS.
