Ridge Road argument ends in death

Police are investigating the scene after a man was killed in a shooting on North Ridge Road this morning.

RIDGE Road is backed up with traffic this afternoon after a man was killed in a shooting shortly before noon.

The shooting allegedly occurred close to St Thomas Road and Berea police detectives are currently busy investigating the crime scene which has been cordoned off.

A resident who lives at a flat across from where the shooting took place told Berea Mail he was on the phone when he heard a gunshot around 11.30am. “By the time I had come down to see what happened, I heard there were two guys arguing. The one was in blue overalls and apparently worked at a home a few houses down the road and he was arguing with an unknown man who allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

“The suspect was already arrested and handcuffed by the time I arrived on the scene and the body of the deceased was concealed by paramedics,” he explained.

Blood could be seen trickling down the road when it started raining shortly after the pavement shooting occurred.

Berea SAPS communications officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo was unable to comment on the shooting as detectives were still collecting evidence at the scene, however did confirm that a man had died in the shooting.

Motorists can expect traffic delays for a short while as police investigate the scene.
