Teamwork results in apprehension of thief

A security officer and the SAPS worked together to apprehend a thief in Lambert Road.

A MORNINGSIDE resident can thank the actions of a private security officer who helped the South African Police Services (SAPS) recover his stolen bicycle.

ADT Security officer Scelo Ngcamu was on patrol along Lambert Road on Saturday 19 March when he noticed a man on a bicycle fleeing from the SAPS. Ngcamu saw the suspect jump over the perimeter wall of a Lambert Road home and notified the SAPS accordingly.

As the SAPS entered the property, officer Ngcamu spotted the suspect jumping back over the wall and saw him hide in some nearby shrubbery. Officer Ngcamu informed the police and they quickly surrounded the shrubbery and apprehended the suspect. The stolen bicycle was recovered and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Berea SAPS.

Ivan Govender, district manager of ADT Security KwaZulu-Natal, praised officer Ngcamu for his vigilance and for working together with the SAPS to ensure the suspect was apprehended.

“This is a wonderful example of great teamwork between the SAPS and ADT Security working together to ensure another criminal is off our streets,” he said.

Govender said should residents come across a suspect, they should remain calm and immediately contact their security service provider or the South African Police Service.

“Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects as they may be armed and dangerous,” he said.
