Learn about plants and climate change
BotSoc will host a talk on how plants are likely to respond to climate change and how we can use plants to monitor and mitigate its effects on the natural environment.

THE Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch presents an illustrated talk on Plants in a Changing Climate: Promises and Perils on Monday, 18 April at Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, at 6pm.
Dr Sershen Naidoo from the Department of Life Sciences, UKZN, will speak on the topic, and will focus on how plants are likely to respond to climate change and how we can use plants to help monitor and mitigate its effects on our natural environment.
South Africa has rich floristic diversity and endemism, being the third most diverse country in the world. However, insufficient conservation measures, climate change and urbanisation have placed many species at risk. Currently there is a global call to monitor climate change driven shifts in biodiversity at the landscape level, to achieve more wide-ranging conservation strategies,” he said.
All are welcome. Entrance, including refreshments is R40 for members of BotSoc and the Friends of Durban Botanic Gardens, R60 for visitors and R30 for students with cards. Pay at the door. Proceeds will go to BotSoc branch projects.
