Embury teacher reaches out

A Grade 6 teacher at CURRO Embury is reaching out to help staff become qualified.

A TEACHER at CURRO Embury College has been looking at improving the lives of the school's ground staff through empowerment and enrichment of the skills they need in order to improve their circumstances and quality of life.

Neelam Naicker recently offered computer literacy lessons toh Duduzile Dlamini, who works in the school's tuck shop lady. Knowing that Dudu has her matric certificate and aspires to be a teacher one day, Neelam helped Dudu apply for a teacher assistant course through EITE.

“She is now pursuing her aspirations and we have just completed a 10 slide Power Point presentation as her first assignment!I have a few plans in place with regards to other staff members,” she said.

The Community Outreach programme which Neelam currently heads, plans to teach Zakuhle Cele, the groundsman at the school, to read and help another staff member with his Learners Licence application and exam.

“As an educational centre, I believe charity begins at home, hopefully, in the not too distant future, Dudu will secure herself a teacher assistant post, Zakuhle starts to speak confidently, read fluently and Innocent earns a promotion post as a driver. That’s only the start of many such initiatives!” said Neelam.
