STOLEN items were recently recovered thanks to the vigilance of a local private security officer.
ADT Security Officer Mduduzu Mgidi was on patrol along Clair Avenue on Saturday 16 April when when he noticed two men leaving a property carrying three bags and two guitars. The men were acting in a suspicious manner, which caused officer Mgidi to call for backup before he approached the men.
When the suspects noticed officer Mgidi approaching they dropped the goods and fled on foot. ADT armed response and members from the Berea South African Police Service (SAPS) soon arrived and checked the area in search of the suspects. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had gained entry via the garage gate and had stolen items from a parked vehicle on the property before fleeing.
Ivan Govender, District Manager of ADT Security KwaZulu-Natal, praised officer Mgidi for his vigilance and bravery.
“Although the suspects were not apprehended, all the stolen items where recovered and returned to the owner. This incident is also a wonderful example of how our guarding and armed response work hand-in-hand with SAPS to ensure safer neighbourhoods,” he said.
Govender said should residents come across a suspect, they should remain calm and immediately contact their security service provider or the South African Police Service.
“Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous,” he said.
