Man shot in protests on North Coast Road

The man who is believed to be in his 30s was transported to Addington Hospital.

A MAN is in a serious condition after he was shot during the protests on North Coast Road near Parkhill this morning. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the man was using an ATM and remonstrated with the protesters when he was attacked. The shooting follows the brutal stoning and assault of another man by protesters earlier this morning.

“The man was shot in the abdomen after he got into an argument with the protesters. He has been transported to Addington Hospital and is in a serious condition,” he said.

Earlier today, protesters torched a dealership on North Coast Road causing extensive damage.

Police personnel from around the province have been called in to assist. It’s believed the protesters are unhappy with the ANC candidate list that was announced. The angry mob have started to disperse from Nandi Drive, however, North Coast Road remains closed.

The situation remains volatile and SAPS has urged people to avoid the area.
