39 arrested in gun blitz

More than 30 firearms were recovered in KZN operations.

KWAZULU-Natal police worked around the clock and recovered 39 firearms and 180 ammunitions in a one-week operation.

The operations were carried out from 12 to 19 June in all the KwaZulu-Natal Clusters. The recovered firearms include a shotgun, two homemade

firearms, 36 pistols together with an assortment of 180 live rounds of ammunition.

A total of 39 suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa, praised police for the recovery of the unlicensed firearms.

“We will ensure that we root-out the proliferation of illegal firearms in this province to prevent serious and violent crimes,” he said.
