Calm returns to Addington Hospital after fire is extinguished

The good efforts by staff at Addington hospital ensured a fire which broke out this morning was contained.

CALM has been restored at Addington Hospital after a fire at one of the upper level floor’s of the large hospital this morning.

Leon Fourie, media and operations liaison at Life Response 24/7 who were first on scene at the hospital said the quick response by hospital staff ensured that the fire on the 12th floor of the hospital was put out.

“We arrived and assisted staff with evacuation and nobody was injured,” Fourie added.

A street vendor outside the hospital, who spoke to Berea Mail said, “It was about 10.30am when we saw smoke coming from a window on one of the top floor’s. The Fire Department and ambulance was here but it was quickly put out. We didn’t even realise people were evacuated because it was just a small group,” she explained.

The Department of Health is awaiting feedback from the scene and are unaware of cause of the fire at this stage. Updates to follow.
