Cape Town mayor visits Sydenham
Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille, visited Sydenham last Friday to tell residents how the DA-run metro operates in the Western Cape.
MAYOR of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille, visited the Sydenham community on Friday.
She was joined by DA mayoral candidate for eThekwini, Haniff Hoosen, and the DA candidate for Ward 31 (Sydenham, Musgrave, Overport, Sparks), Christopher Pappas.
Patricia was welcomed by more than 250 residents at an event at the Sydenham Community Centre, where she shared her party’s good story of Cape Town, highlighting how the DA-run metro spends the majority of the municipal budget on the poor and has achieved consecutive clean audits. She also mentioned the local and international awards her city had won for good governance and service delivery.
De Lille further explained how the intelligence of voters should not be taken for granted.
“Corrupt politicians think they can fool voters, but they can’t. We must vote out corruption and vote in a government that works for the people,” de Lille explained.
Hoosen highlighted various social and economic challenges facing the city and the DA’s 10-point strategy to turn the city around.
“In 2002 we managed to get the ANC under 50 per cent. If each DA voter brought one other DA voter to the voting station on 3 August we could bring the ANC under 50 per cent again,” he said.
The event concluded with applause for the Ward 31 candidate, Christopher Pappas, as he spoke fluent isiZulu, telling residents that he is determined to unite the diverse ward under a common vision of freedom, fairness and opportunity for all.
