Book encourages making dreams a reality

A local doctor has penned her debut book on being positive and helping others.

DR Nirvadha Singh, a dynamic personality who believes in transforming dreams into reality, launched her debut book, You, The Journey Begins, at Musgrave Library on Saturday.

You, The Journey Begins, is the first to be written in a series, which will assist readers in self-discovery and self-healing. The multi-talented author reveals through her book the ultimate key to unlock your own potential: “Once you believe, you achieve,” she said.

Singh said she started writing at the age of five. “I used to take a little book and write down my thoughts. I was happy, but came from a sad, impoverished background.”

One of the stories She wrote down had a big impact on her. She said she lived in a block of flats on the one side of a large park, and on the other side, in the more affluent area, there was a beautiful white house which always had a large fir Christmas tree outside at Christmas time.

“We’d gather on the fourth floor of our block and look at it, and we all wished we could have one too. I asked my neighbour if she could help us, and she said she would give me one seed for every week if I worked in her garden. After five weeks she gave me five seeds and I put them in my pocket. Later, I only pulled out four of them, and we dug a hole and planted them, only for them to be washed away in a thunderstorm that night. The next day I found the last seed in my pocket, and planted it, and today it’s the largest tree in the neighbourhood!” she said.

“Today I live in that beautiful white house! I believe our past shapes our future and great poverty can create poverty of the mind. We have a purpose to uplift others, and need the tools to assist in doing this,” she said.

Singh said her book is a guideline to self-discovery and self-healing, and that only once you change yourself, you can learn to help others. The book also touches on fate and faith, and how you can make your own destiny by harnessing your strength deep down, to bring out your creativity and potential, to move forward in your career or in something you are passionate about.

Dr Singh is an international public figure and has also been conferred the title of Ambassador of World Peace (Shantidoot) in Pilani, Rajasthan, India. She was awarded the title for introducing peace education into health care and community activities.

As a humanitarian, she has been involved in several campaigns to raise awareness against drug abuse, HIV, tuberculosis, teenage pregnancy, woman and child abuse, violence, cancer, disasters, refugee aide, and has incorporated her unique strategic motivational techniques to enable self-healing within these individuals and communities.

The book has received an overwhelming response on its entry securing its place in the big five book retailers including Google PlayBook, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Nook. The book is also available at Adams Musgrave Centre and on iTunes.
