Local DJ’s video showcases Durban

DJ Carly's career is on the up-and-up, with the release of Coastlines, a track about life in Durban.

LOCAL lass, known to many as DJ Carly is thrilled that her career has finally exploded nationally.

DJ Carly (Carly Oosthuizen) recently released a major track, Coastlines, that will soon be heard on both local and international radio stations.

“This is huge! We have also shot the official music video for it, which showcases Durban and the lifestyle of living near the sea. Durban beach, Bike & Bean, uShaka, and everything that highlights Durban as the warmest place to be is included!” she said.

The video involved a team of three film companies, two award-winning make make-up artists, sponsorship by Swaggerwear, Durban’s premium street wear brand, custom made bikinis, Durban’s finest models, Rorke Kemp, a Cape Town vocalist, and herself and fellow DJ Lee-Why.

“It’s a locally produced track with cross-nation collaboration, focusing a lot on my lifestyle as a DJ. The video starts off with Rorke (vocalist) alone on a quiet beach and as the song progresses he gets caught up and drawn into this warm weather party lifestyle that the coastline has to offer. Fun, sun, fast cars, parties and music.

We wanted to make something that is specific to the lifestyle that I live on a daily basis, as well as a video that showcases Durban. The song is a view from the inside of the DJ lifestyle. It’s also very uplifting which has been one of the reasons we have had so much positive feedback. It’s something we are happy to share with people of all ages and something that is appropriate for the youth,” said Carly.

Carly has been involved with music her whole life, specifically the piano and writing music.

“I’m from Durban. I lived in Pietermaritzburg when I was younger and moved back to the coast. I got into DJing after I met DJ Lee-Why. It was something I had dreamed of doing my whole life, and I’m the type of person that chases every single goal and dream I have!” she said.

She said the support for the track has been incredible and she has had the opportunity to work with some amazing people.

“We were invited by Bike & Bean and Ink It Tattoos to shoot some of our scenes on their premises. Our team was amazing, our models were all up for shooting in the unstable weather, but in the end everything turned out perfectly and it really did help having such a professional team. Everyone came together to assist, even people I had never met until the day we started shooting. It was great to see the growing support for local productions,” she said.

The song is out on Sound Cloud and the video is on its way. Readers can also listen out for it on local radio stations.
