Eight injured in city smash
A woman had to be cut out of a severely wrecked vehicle in an early morning crash in the Durban CBD.
EIGHT people were injured after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Anton Lembede (Smith) Street and Gardiner Street just after 1am this morning (Saturday, 23 July).
According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, paramedics arrived on the scene to find two badly smashed vehicles in the intersection.
“One of the passengers was severely entrapped and the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to free her from the wreckage. Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilised the seriously injured lady on the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital for the further care that she required,” he said.
He said a further seven people including a pedestrian walking on the pavement had sustained various injuries and were also stabilised on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals for the further care that they required.
“At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further,” said Jamieson.
