Search fund launched for missing Durban woman
A fund has been set up to support the search for Brenda Scriven, who went missing last week.
WHILE the search for Sunningdale woman, Brenda Scriven (62), who disappeared in the height of the storms on Monday, 25 July, has been halted till further instruction, the family of the missing woman has established a fund to raise funds so that the search can resume.
According to Scriven’s son-in-law, Lee Swales, the family has established the non-profit company in Brenda’s name with the dual purpose of funding K-9 Search and Rescue in both the private and public sectors. Any excess funds donated to the Searching for Brenda Fund, will be transferred to K-9 Search and Rescue. Our first trained K-9 will be called Brenda,” he said.
According to Swales, the last contact the family had with Scriven was while she was driving home from work on Monday, 25 July. The rains caused massive flooding along roads in Durban North and Scriven’s vehicle was recovered at the bottom of Glen Anil Road in Durban North, but she was nowhere to be found.
An extensive search was launched and has been underway over the past week with Search and Rescue, various other organisations and concerned community members searching for Scriven. The last co-ordinated search was held on Sunday and Swales said the family has been overwhelmed by the support from the community as hundreds of volunteers joined the search over several days.
“We would like to thank every individual, authority and community based group who has helped with the search. We continue to put one foot in front of the other and will keep searching for her until we have answers.”
In the meantime, the family is appealing for help in fundraising so that the search for Brenda Scriven can be resumed.
