Environmental activists meet
A meeting will be held to discuss environmental issues, as part of the Active Citizens Movement (ACM), a new citizens' forum.

PEOPLE interested in the environment and challenges facing the country, are encouraged to meet at 37 Earlswood Place, Durban North on Saturday 15 August, at 3pm.
Issues such as global warming, pollution, energy, deforestation, conservation of heritage and natural resources, food sovereignty and biodiversity will be discussed, so that the most pressing areas of concern can be identified, and a core group of citizens can be formed around the issues of conservation of the environment.
This group will form part of an organised civil society structure which is in the process of being launched in Durban to strengthen democracy as set out in the Constitution for the benefit of all the people in South Africa.
Several meetings have already taken place, including a recent strategic planning workshop, where the name Active Citizens Movement (ACM) was chosen for this citizens' forum. The ACM is not a political party and has no intention of forming one. An expanded interim committee (IC) was established to take forward this civic initiative.
At the IC's recent meeting, the most pressing areas of concern were identified such as youth, education, the environment, health and recruitment, and each committee member chose their area of concern and was tasked to arrange to meet like-minded others, document the issues and report back to the next IC meeting at the end of August. The meeting on the environment forms part of this.
RSVP to Coral Vinsen at ccarew37@gmail.com, 031 564 7239 or 083 301 3654 by Thursday 12 August.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, email Coral your environmental concerns and express your interest in being involved in this initiative.
