Data user leak forces city to shut down e-services

The city has shut down its e-services website after reports of a possible hack.

ETHEKWINI Municipality  has shut down its e-services website after it was warned it was possibly leaking users personal information.

In a media statement this morning, the city said it was investigating claims that information was being shared relating to customers’ accounts and as a precautionary measure, had taken the site offline in order to prevent any unauthorised access to client data.

The city expects the site will be back online on Monday, 12 September 2016. In the meantime eServices users can contact the Revenue call centre on 031 324 5000.

Should customers prefer to email or fax their query they may do so on the following contact details:

Email address – Revline@durban.gov.za / Fax 031 324 5111.

The city said  eServices users should not to panic because it had acted proactively to protect their private information.
