Thief caught red handed
A 24-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of stolen property around midnight last Wednesday.
According to Captain PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, police officers were patrolling along Tenth Avenue Morningside at about 11.50pm when they noticed a suspicious man carrying a flat screen television in a plastic bag. “The officers stopped and questioned the man about the TV. He could not give them a reasonable explanation as to where he got the TV from, so was charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property,” Naidoo explained.
Two arrested driving stolen vehicle
Two men were arrested last Wednesday afternoon after vigilant community members recognised and informed Berea police officers of a stolen vehicle parked in Windermere.
Captain PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS said the officers received information that a suspected stolen motor vehicle was parked in Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road. “They went and held observation and spotted the vehicle. After checking with radio control, they discovered the vehicle was reported stolen and waited for the occupants to come back to the vehicle and arrested two suspects aged 42 and 35,” he added.
Paul Antao, chairman of the Berea CPF welcomed the “outstanding work” and the manner in which Berea SAPS dealt with the stolen vehicle on Windermere Road.
“It is clear that being observant is key to the successful identification of criminals. Let us hope that our community become just as observant so that if an individual walks on our streets with a plasma screen, the community are also able to identify this an issue and report this to the SAPS for checking. The criminals must not be allowed to walk our streets without the fear of capture,” he added.
