One arrested in DUT student protests

A student was arrested at DUT this afternoon.

POLICE have confirmed one person was arrested on Tuesday afternoon during protests at the Durban University of Technology.

According to Captain PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS,a suspect was identified throwing stones at police and the arrested for public violence.

“The situation is calm now but students moved from Steve Biko campus down to the residence at Dr Yusuf Dadoo where students were burning tyres before returning to ML Sultan campus were they tried to stone police,” he said.

Public order police were at the campus and Berea police were patrolling the area.

The student protests has forced DUT to shut down all its campuses until Thursday, 29 Setpember.
