Ferguson Halloween party ready to trick or treat
Ferguson Road community members are all set to trick and treat at the 'Ferguson Road Halloween' event on Saturday, 29 October.
NOW in its third year, the Ferguson Road Halloween Costume Party, a family dress up event in Glenwood, is set to be bigger than before next Saturday, 29 October.
The Ferguson Road Halloween Costume Party is now in its third year and promises a bigger and better event growing from its initial 200 visitors to more than 1000 last year.
The fun community initiative organisers of the costume party, Helen Thompson and Ian Reed, started the street party to have a fun event where children and the adults of the community could get together in a safe environment for some fun and trick or treating. “We just enjoy uplifting the community spirit and also take back the streets with the event,” they said.
The fun starts at 5pm at the KZNSA Gallery were they will host a colouring-in competition for children and adults, followed by scary stories by Peter John Hattingh. “We will then meander across to Ferguson Road for trick or treating from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at various homes along Ferguson Road and end with a bring and braai and Halloween themed dance thereafter at the Berea Bowling Club,” explained Reed.
The community have since enjoyed getting together regularly to create Halloween decor which includes bats, tombstones, mini and giant pumpkins, upcycled milk bottle skeletons, spiders and other spooky decor. This year the organisers had to raise funds for the public liability insurance and road closure so there is a raffle (R10) for a Gunslinger long board on view at Urban Pizza. Urban Pizza and Mooki Noodles and Dirk’s Meat Market have sponsored prizes for the the best dressed children, adults, couple and recycled costume.
Entry to the party costs R10 per family plus a bag of individually wrapped sweets that needs to be dropped of by 26 October at Mooki Noodles or Urban Pizza on Brand Road.
